Start the contribution of 70,000 m3 of sand on the beaches of Sitges
The project has a budget of € 420,000 assumes that the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment and will be financed with an annual fee paid by the City for the installation and operation of services on the beaches.
The four marine beaches affected by storms in recent years, San Sebastian, Round Pond, and Stream Estanyol xica rebenn Wednesday contributed nearly 70,000 m3 of sand between 15.000m3 and 18.000m3 each of the four beaches.
The project has a budget of € 420,000 which will provide the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, which will partially finance the annual fee paid by the City for the installation and operation of services of season beaches.
Contributions are made by sand dredging system that operates 24 hours a day, pouring sand on the beach which stretches far no swimmers, and night areas occupied by swimmers. Thus there will be no effects on swimmers, as the beaches remain partially open to the public during the day, and will only be closed at night.
Councilman Beaches, Ignatius Garrigó expressed his satisfaction “to carry out since the first action of urgency and resolve the lack of large sandy beaches suffer from these four,” but nevertheless, “this is not a solution short, but we’re working on the final draft of regeneration that will allow coastal Sitges stop these episodes we have been experiencing in the last 20 years. ”
The aim of the Department of Beaches is that these contributions are solved two problems exist. On the one hand, excessive sandy entrance to the port Broom, Garraf and Aiguadolç and posed a security problem for navigation; and secondly, the need to power sand beaches.
The City has authorization from the Government of Catalonia (where he participated Transportation Services, Coast and Environment) and the go-ahead from the Coastal Demarcation of Barcelona. He has also worked in the process one of the most prestigious environmental consultants.
Authorities and consultants ensure that the contribution of sea grass or sand will not affect generally the seabed, and that respect the area affected by the Natura 2000 network, as has been claimed biometrics, with the seabed filming location Satellite and samples from different locations, among other reports. The project is supported by the positive environmental reports of the Government and the detailed seabed within the area of Natura 2000 Barcelona Provincial Council conducted.
Performing works by regenerating the beaches of Sitges is collected in a cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment and the City of Sitges to solve the problems suffered years Sitges coastline.
This agreement is the first step in what will be the final project for the regeneration of the beaches of Sitges which provides solutions to the shortcomings of the fixed coastal Sitges. Councilman Beaches states that “now we have opened a door that we all have to keep open and we continue to work closely to ensure the viability of the tourism project Silos.”
The final project, which could begin to develop in 2015, includes the entire coastline of Sitges from the shops and to the neck.
